Butterfly Plants (Perennial Starter Plants)

Butterfly plants are for pickup in Seafoam or Halifax only. We are not able to ship plants.

Milkweeds come in 2.5" paper pots which can be planted directly in the ground to minimize transplant shock. They need to be hardened off and planted in the ground from the end of May onward. All other butterfly plants come potted in 4" pots and are ready to be planted in the ground now.

Orders of 12 or more plants receive an automatic 10% off the price of the plants at checkout! You can mix-and-match with any combination of plants to receive the bulk discount.

Join us in helping to save the butterflies (and other pollinators)!

Each of these starter plants can help butterflies by acting as a nectar plant (the nectar serves as food for adult butterflies) or a host plant (the leaves serve as food for caterpillars). Many butterflies have seen large population declines due to climate change, loss of habitat, widespread herbicide and pesticide use, as well as changes in agricultural practices and clearing of ditches along roadsides.

We can do our part by planting butterfly plants in our gardens! All of our butterfly plants are perennials in Nova Scotia, and will return year after year to help save these precious creatures from extinction. Each has been propagated by division or seed from established plants here in our gardens in Seafoam.

Help!  Why does the checkout say that you don't ship to my location?

If you are located in the United States or Canada and you receive an error message at checkout that reads, 'This order can’t be shipped to your location. Contact the store for more information.' and/or 'We don’t offer shipping to [your province or state].', you probably have an item(s) in your cart available for local pickup only. The most frequent culprits are hand sanitizer and seedlings. Removing those items from your cart will allow you to complete checkout.
