Apios americana

With edible tubers similar to a sweet potato, this native legume likes to grow! They will vine extensively to climb a trellis or nearby shrubs. They perform well in sun to part shade, and like moist, well-drained soils. They a lot of space in the ground but can also be grown in large containers or raised beds. Deer may browse the foliage but this will not affect their growth significantly - they are very resilient plants!
